2014 rankings place Springfield, Missouri twice in the top 20
| 10 years agoIt’s the top of the list for Springfield as two 2014 rankings place Missouri’s third largest city in the top twenty amongst the best of the best in the nation.
Springfield ranked 20th as one of USA Today’s Magnets for Young Adults amongst 289 cities with a population of 100,000 or more. Following a trend of the emerging post-college town, USA Today used recent U.S. Census data to identify a list of cities with a high ratio of 20-somethings to teens. According to research conducted, the higher the ratio, the stronger the local pull is for young adults.
In another study conducted by Joel Kotkin, a growth analyst and acclaimed writer for Newgeography.com, Springfield, Missouri, was listed as the 15th Best City for Job Growth amongst midsize cities in the United States, and one of only two Missouri cities ranked within the top 100 of all cities. Five measurements of growth were utilized in examining 398 metro areas with data available over the past 10 years from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The methodology for the 2014 rankings focuses on MSA growth most recently and over a period of time, examining both employment and industry categories.
With a metro area of nearly 450,000, Springfield, Missouri, continues to experience growth, adding nearly 3,000 jobs to our growing labor force over the past 12 months. The area continues to experience a decrease in unemployment with annual unemployment rate of 5.6% in 2013, ranking Springfield 69 out of 372 metro areas.
