Transportation

In Springfield, the efficiency of coming and going is streamlined. The region has a heritage as a central railroad hub and the birthplace of historic Route 66. A well-maintained infrastructure, cutting-edge traffic systems, and state-of-the art airport facilities continue this tradition, making travel to and from the Springfield Region ideal.

Highways

The Springfield Region, in partnership with MoDOT, has completed around a dozen interchange reconstruction projects in the last 10 years. Most recently, the US 60/65 interchange in Southeast Springfield underwent a rebuild that not only significantly improved traffic flow, but also provided enhanced safety and greater accessibility for businesses, residents and visitors from across the Springfield 10-county region represented by the Springfield Regional Economic Partnership.

Due to our efficient roadway systems, the region is home to more than 40 trucking terminals, representing all major national carriers including, but not limited to, Prime Trucking, TransLand, Trailiner and YRC, Inc.

Airports

Two commercial airports and several general aviation facilities call the Springfield Region home, making travel for business or pleasure a breeze. Serving one million passengers in 2018 at the Springfield-Branson National Airport alone, traveling from one coast to the other is made easier with convenient and accessible air travel.

Springfield-Branson National Airport (SGF)

In 2009, Springfield-Branson National Airport opened a new, state-of-the-art terminal building with 10 gates and the potential to add up to 60 more. The facility currently houses four airlines—American, Delta, United, and low-cost carrier, Allegiant, and provide more than 26 daily nonstop flights to key business hubs, including Atlanta, Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas, and Denver.

Branson Airport (BKG)

Privately owned, the Branson Airport opened in the spring of 2009, providing a second convenient option for regularly scheduled commercial airline service. BKG offers low-cost, scheduled service to major cities across the middle part of the United States including Chicago, Houston, and Denver making it an easy-to-use option to get in and out of the region.

General Aviation

In addition to general aviation facilities at SGF and BKG, there are a number of locations throughout the region that provide runways to meet all of your business needs—Bolivar, Monett, and Downtown Springfield providing longer than 4000 foot runways respectively.

Rail and Ports

The region’s Class I railroad is BNSF Railway who maintains a “hub” and two switching yards in Springfield. BNSF connects in all directions via four subdivisions. While the nearest intermodal facility is 140 miles away in Gardner, Kansas, Springfield has several transload facilities.

The Tulsa Port of Catoosa is the nearest port, about 160 miles away. It houses a multi-modal shipping complex located at the head of navigation for the McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System.
