Bolivar is home to Southwest Baptist University, a four-year liberal arts university that offers up to 80 degree programs, including an MBA, Doctor of Physical Therapy and Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership and a Master of Science in Nursing. Bolivar Technical College also offers healthcare-related programs, including an LPN and RN.

Bolivar’s healthcare community includes Mercy Multispecialty Clinic, which opened in Fall 2019, and Citizens Memorial Hospital and Citizens Memorial Healthcare Foundation, which is a fully integrated healthcare system that serves eight counties in southwest Missouri. Utilities

Liberty Utilities provides water and sewer to Bolivar residents with an extended reach south of Hwy. 13 to Karlin Acres and Prairie Heights Subdivisions. Treated with chlorine and fluoride, the city’s water supply is provided by five wells with a capacity of 4.5 MGD. The wells pump 400-700 gallons of water per minute. On an average, they pump 1.5 MGD. The wastewater treatment plant can handle up to 2.5 MGD, with an average of 1 million gallons per day.
